(500) Days of Unreciprocated Affection
(500) Days of Summer... This movie is very accurate in its portrayal of a real and quite mundane romance many people go through in their lives. Average guy meets manic pixie dream girl, how wonderful! The movie shows the highs and lows throughout the relationship in a non-linear format adding interest for the viewer. Okay, sure Summer and Tom had similar interests, but can we really say she was as invested in it as him? Is similar interests all it takes to fall in love with a person? Tom seemed to have made up his own version of Summer in his mind, and when real Summer didn't fit into his little mold he would act like a baby. Not everyone you meet and get along with is the one and you just have to move on. Onto the topic of filmmaking, this movie was very creative in showing not telling audience members. The side-by-side scene of expectation vs. reality definitely allows relatability for audience members. We always have our high expectations everything will be perfect and go our way but the reality is much more bleak. This movie showed how challenging romance and love and finding "the one" can be, but what are you gonna do? Not try? No way. Every actor's performance was great and the colors utilized enhanced the film.
